LOCAL GYMNASTS STANDOUT AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS |
| Gymnasts and coaches at Azarian US Gymnastics Training Center in Aliso Viejo spent this past weekend making their mark in the gymnastics community at the Southern California State Championships. Members of the Azarian Girl’s Team competed in Long Beach while the Azarian Boy’s Team competed at Biola University. Between the two events, Azarian athletes earned 15 individual event gold medals and two were name All-Around State Champions. Twenty-seven gymnasts turned in outstanding performances to advance to the USA Gymnastics Regional Championships coming up in early April. In the boys’ competition DJ Corpuz, Marty Strech, Joshua Uberti, Mitchell Schusler, Steve Lacombe, and Jimmy Kerry earned spots as members of the State All-Star team who will be representing California at the Regional Championships in San Jose in April. In the girls’ competition, Stacy Naglestad, Kelsey Bayless and Sarah McMillian advanced to compete at the Level 8 Regional Championships. In the Level 9 division, Andrea Stone and Stephanie Toubman will be advancing to Regionals as will Shanice Howard and Amelia Montoya in the Level 10 division. JUNIOR OLYMPIC RESULTS Girls Level 8: Stacy Naglestad – 3rd place all-around and beam, 5th place vault and floor, 6th place bars Kelsey Bayless – 9th place vault Girls Level 9: Andrea Stone – 8th place all-around and bars, 5th place beam, 6th place vault Stephanie Toubman – State Champion floor 9.575, 3rd place bars, 7th place vault, 8th place all-around Girls Level 10: Shanice Howard – 11th place all-around Boys Level 5 State Champions: Marty Strech – floor 9.65, pommel horse 9.225, rings 9.65, vault 9.65, high bar 9.0 and all around 55.95 DJ Corpuz – floor 9.6 Boys Level 6: Tyler Schoon – floor 9.525 Brion Kerry – pommel horse 9.2 Kevin Tran – vault 9.575 Joshua Uberti – floor 9.225, pommel horse 8.8, vault 9.45, all-around 53.825 Boys Level 7 Mitchell Schusler – vault 9.7 Boys Level 9: Jimmy Kerry – floor 8.85 In addition to being home to these successful competitive teams, Azarian U.S Gymnastics Training Center, located at Aliso Viejo, also offers recreational gymnastics, trampoline, tumbling and cheer classes to boys and girls of all ages.
